The Cult of the Pallid Mask is a religious group that worships the King In Yellow. Members are typically characterized by the pale mask they wear. Arthur and John's encounter with some of the members seems to suggest that the cult has some sort of clairvoyant power. When wearing the pale mask, one is able to see things they normally would not be able to. The group's motives are somewhat unclear, with their only discernible goal being to reunite John with The King In Yellow.
History[]
The exact origins of the group are unknown.
In Part One, a man wearing a pallid mask fires a gun at Arthur in JD Ackerman's Bookstore, before fleeing.
At the end of Part Ten, John and Arthur find the room of Daniel Sayid, who is a member of the cult and has a pallid mask. John and Arthur encounter him in Part Eleven, where he slits his own throat, and Arthur uses his mask and robes as a disguise. After having an unmasked man draw Arthur's blood, a cult member asks Arthur a series of questions directly related to encounters that John and Arthur have had in previous episodes. The exact mechanism behind this ability is unclear. Not including Daniel, five masked cultists appear in this episode, though none are named directly. A wallet in the hotel has an ID for Doug Churchman, who is, presumably, one of the members.
In Part Twelve, a cultist leads Arthur into an auditorium filled with hundreds of masked individuals. The cult conducts a ritual to reunite John with the King in Yellow, and give the King control of Arthur's body. The ritual ultimately fails.
